Creative Tool: Idea Mutation

It's mutating out of control!   Here is another wild method of improving the creativity of ideas through the process of introducing random 'mutations'.  I call it Idea Mutation. Method: Start with an idea.  Add it to a circle on the far left side of a piece of paper.  That is round 1. Make two branches off the first idea.  Each branch has a new circle.  That is round 2. For each branch, roll a 10-sided dice and select the 'mutation' from the table below. For each branch, create a 'mutated' idea incorporating that branch's mutation. Continue branching and mutation ideas for subsequent rounds (3, 4, etc.). Modifications: Include different mutations (ex. Add Thrill, More Collaborative, Clearer, etc.) Add null mutation (no changes for certain branches) Change probability of mutations (same mutation for more than one number) Examples:

Explorations in Clayland Part 47: Draconic

Fire and wings.   Time for some dragons and dragon-esk creatures.  Hides your gold.  Fireproof your cottage.  Call the dragonslayer! Tri-Dragon:  Three heads.  Four legs.  Five tails.  Unlimited carnage.   Double Fire Dragon: Two heads has this dragon of old.  One spews fire the other hoards gold. Winged Wyrm:  Unlike a wyvern, this dragon-kin has no legs.  Its wings work just fine though. Wyrm Familiar:   Not a true wyrm, this affable creatures often accompanies dragon-mages. Armless Dragonsaur: A species of dinosaur-like creatures with dragon-like traits.  Its arms have atrophied beyond even vestigial protrusions.  Fire breathing more than makes up for it. Prismatic Wurm: Some say this serpentine dragon-kin has basilisk blood in its lineage.  Avoid looking directly at its eyes, just to be safe. Roughback Salamander: This flame-backed beast is twice as large as the typical fire-loving mythical salamander.  It eats campfires for breakfast and, if you're not careful, unwary campers

Prehistoric Doodles Away!   I've finished up with a couple of intensive dinosaur-themed videos,  Worst Dinosaurs ABCs and The Worst Dinosaur Tournament .  Both involved making cartoon dinosaurs.  So I decided to put those dinosaurs to another use!  Here is part one of my dinosaurs doodles. Explorations in Clayland Part 46: Baffling Beasts

Can't make heads or tails of 'em.   These creatures defy a common description.  Some look more like furniture or abstract art than a living thing.  Oh well, bafflement is the soup of the day. Progenitor Ooze: This creature is a member of the Dawn Colossi  that I forgot to place correctly.  Flat and amoeba-like, it crawls across broken lands, looking for prey to engulf. Mottled Rugbeast:  From above, it could be mistaken for a tacky rug or a patch of odd forest fungus.  Underneath, it reveals glowing eyes and a ravenous mouth. Folded Rugbeast: Its eyes and mouth are located in the center of its flat body.  It can fold up the sides of its body to form pseudo-limbs. Ambulatory Tripod:  This lump of flesh has three legs but no other appendages.  Despite no apparent eyes, ears, mouth, or other sense organs, it manages to move around and sustain itself. Blitz Elemental: Formed from the imprint of lightning on sand, this elemental's limbs are asymmetrical and highly warped.  The i
